At Fulton City School District, we know that regular attendance plays an important role in students’ academic growth, confidence, and connection to their school community.
Why else is attendance important? While all students circumstances are different, nationwide data tells us that:
- Positive attendance habits can lead to better connections to the school community.
- Starting in kindergarten, missing 10% of school (or just 2 days a month) can make it harder to learn to read and cause children to fall behind in school.
- By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
- Developing positive attendance habits can lead to important life skills in college and the workplace after high school
The goal of sending
attendance letters is not to question necessary absences but to increase communication around attendance and to partner with families when attendance support is needed. Additionally, Fulton City School District
attendance regulation requires us to notify families when a student’s attendance rate falls below 91%, even when absences are related to illness.
If there are circumstances impacting attendance or if you would like to talk through ways we can support your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school.
