Granby Family Updates

January 2026

Welcome Back
Dear Granby Families,
Happy New Year! I hope your winter break was filled with joy, rest, and wonderful memories.

There is nothing quite like the energy of an elementary school after a holiday break—the excitement of friends reuniting and the "new year" spark in the classrooms. We have missed our students' smiles and are so eager to hear their stories they are excited to share.

As we begin this new chapter of the school year, our focus remains on creating a kind, supportive environment where every child feels safe enough to take risks, which will accelerate their learning and growth. We are honored to partner with you in your child’s journey.

Here’s to a fantastic 2026.

Warmly,
Gina Salerno, Principal

Digital Resources Survey

The New York State Education Department annually asks parents to complete a Digital Resources Survey (for each student in the family) in grades K-12. This survey provides information on student access to devices and internet access in their places of residence. Please complete the survey by clicking here:

Let's Name the Baby Dragon

FCSD's big dragon, Thunder, is excited to choose a name for our baby dragon! When we get back from break:
  • students will be able to submit ideas for a name at the library until January 16th.
  • The top 3 names will be placed into ballot boxes at each elementary schools' library on January 20th.
  • Ballots will be counted and we will have a new name by the end of the month!
Check out the informational and absolutely adorable DRAGON NAMING VIDEO! We can't wait!

Outdoor Recess and Winter Weather

Our children thrive on exercise, fresh air and sunshine (when we have it). As long as our child watch calculator says it's warm enough to go out- we're headed outside to play!

Please be sure your child has a winter coat, boots, hat and gloves. If they wish to play in the snow, snow snow pants are required.

Need help getting warm winter attire for your child? Please call Granby at 315-593-5480.

Emergency Closing and Delay Information

When delays and closings happen, all FCSD families will be notified through ParentSquare.

As in the past, notifications will also be sent to Facebook, Instagram, local news and media outlets. Finally, a popup alert will appear on the district website.

Make sure your contact information in ParentSquare is correct to receive the fastest information available!

When there is a two-hour delay:

  • School for students in grades 7-12 will begin at 9:35 am.

  • The elementary school day will begin at 10:30 am.

  • Morning UPK will be cancelled.

  • Bus pick up times will be 2 hours later than they are on a regular school day.

  • Breakfast is not served at school.

Forgiveness- Character Trait of the Month

Throughout January we will focus on what it looks and sounds like to embody the trait of Forgiveness!

Students who are role models:
  • are good at forgiving those who have done them wrong.
  • accept that people make mistakes and often give others second chance.
  • are eager to provide grace over revenge.
