FJHS students win 2022 regional Battle of the Books
7th and 8th-grade students from Fulton Junior High School recently competed in the 2022 regional O²CM SLS Battle of the Books Competition, bringing home the first-place trophy for their school with a score of 144 points as part of the Fulton Red Raiders: Rebooted team.
The "Battle of the Books" is a reading program designed to encourage the reading of a variety of literature. Parents and faculty members served as coaches for the competing students.
In this competition, 7th and 8th-grade students read a group of eight titles and competed in teams of 2-4 to answer questions in a quiz show format. All questions began with the words, “In which book…?”
The FJHS team not only won their local building-wide competition but also beat out 13 other middle school teams from both Oswego and Onondaga-Cayuga-Madison county districts.
The winning team consisted of Sophia Hanlon, Greyson Strong, Andrew Becker and Thomas Wood.
Also participating in the battle were FJHS students Grace Vogel, Kelci Watkins, Kendall Brooks, Genevieve Urgan, Vardon Taplin, Declan Nickerson and Gracyn Cantine.
