Current Icon Contenders

  • The committee's first community survey (March 2023) solicited over 1200 community ideas. The advisory committee then used this data to select three top candidates based on frequency of suggestion and committee criteria.

Top Candidates

DRAGONS

    • Dragons were one of the top most-suggested names in our community survey. The committee felt they adhered to the logo criteria while also providing an impressive and intimidating mascot that many students could be proud of. The committee also felt that dragons offered the easiest means of maintaining the current color scheme of red and green. With the exception of SUNY Cortland, there are no other schools using "dragons" in our immediate area.

EAGLES

    • Eagles were the top most-suggested name in our community survey. The committee felt they adhered to the logo criteria while also appealing to local wildlife and history (eagles have been nesting again in the Fulton area and have even made appearances at recent graduations). While one of the most common icons in schools across NYS (over 50 in total), there are no schools using "eagles" in our immediate area. While Jordan-Elbridge CSD uses "Eagles," we do not compete with them on a regular basis.

WOLF PACK

    • Wolves (or Wolf Pack) were one of the top most-suggested names in our community survey. The committee felt they adhered to the logo criteria and -- by using Wolf Pack rather than just Wolves -- emphasized the importance of community, camaraderie and unity.  There are only a limited number of schools using "Wolves" in our immediate area (Union Springs, etc.) and none using "Wolf Pack.

Committee Criteria

  • The committee evaluated community responses under the criteria that the new icon must:

    • Represent the entire student body
    • Acknowledge and honor our local history and school traditions
    • Promote school pride
    • Respect our entire community and reflect FCSD values/standards
    • Translate to identifiable branding and align with school colors
    • Be unique to FCSD, but not incredibly obscure
