Senior athletes earn accolades at ceremony Nearly 100 Fulton City School District senior athletes were recognized recently for their contributions to the Red Raider sports program over the years.
The student-athletes were lauded during a banquet sponsored by the Fulton Athletic Booster Club. Keynote speaker Tim Connors, a 2013 GRB graduate and cancer survivor, congratulated the athletes and encouraged them to strive for success amid adversity.
“You have choices in life (and) I encountered some serious obstacles along the way,” Connors said. “Perseverance … it’s so important that it is actually the thing that saved my life. You have to get up to achieve your goals. Decide what you want and go get it.”
For the athletes in the room, that message resonated as they reflected on their high school careers marked by sectional championships and record-setting performances. Multi-sport athletes Callie Beckwith and Cody Green took home the Dan McGinnis Senior Athlete of the Year Award, which recognized them for their accomplishments in their respective sports.
Special recognition awards were given to Richie Burke (Fan of the Year), Quinton Jackson (All-Time Rusher), and the Section III bowling and wrestling champions. Other honors were presented to Hunter Hartranft and Austin Wilde (Barney Naioti Leadership Award); Olivia Coakley and Garet Roik (Joe Castiglia Effort Award); Cameron Clark (Dale Tombs Baseball Award); Christina Ravesi and Austin Beckwith (Gene Adams Most Improved Award); Callie Beckwith and David Tallents (Scholar Athlete Award); and Emilee Hyde and Josh Hudson (Sox Stuber Sportsmanship Award).
Along with the awards presentation, there were also several scholarships given during the ceremony. Scholarship recipients included Marisa LiVoti (Danielle Rae Kunzwiler Guistina Scholarship and Brian Dodge Running Scholarship); Koda LaBeef (Rick Luciano Football Scholarship); Amber DeStevens and Ethan Dexter (Shirley Chalifoux Scholarship); Jacob McDermott (Carl Barton Scholarship); and Callie Beckwith (Margaret Beckwith Scholarship).
