College and Career Fair a Success at Fairgrieve

Fairgrieve Elementary School fifth and sixth-graders recently explored a variety of job options and post-secondary learning opportunities as part of the third annual College and Career Fair.

Employees and business owners representing a variety of career paths were on hand to discuss their job requirements, daily responsibilities, benefits and other job perks. Students interested in animal science met with a veterinarian and a zookeeper, while those considering careers in public service, the business sector or the arts engaged in conversation with first responders, educators, accountants and makeup artists, to name a few.

The fifth and sixth-graders peppered the presenters with questions about their academic background, years of service and salary information. During a session with Army personnel, students learned about service, sacrifice and work ethic.

“The students asked some great questions and they learned so much about the different jobs that are available,” said Fairgrieve Principal Jean Ciesla.

In addition to career exploration, students also met with representatives from SUNY Oswego, LeMoyne, Crouse School of Nursing, Onondaga Community College, Cayuga Community College, AmeriCorps and the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation.
