Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! Below is brief outline of Physical Education class, including expectations, grading, and activities. Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.
NEW YORK STATE PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS:
1. Personal Health and Fitness
Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health.
2. Safe and Healthy Environment
Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
3. Resource Management (Community Resources)
Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources
1. Be Respectful:
Treat classmates and teacher as you would like to be treated. Be kind, listen, and follow directions. Respect the equipment and use it only as directed.
2. Be Responsible:
Come prepared for class with athletic clothing: sneakers, tshirt, shorts/sweats
. Report any injuries or other issues to the teacher. Be able to participate independently.
3. Be Safe:
Be aware of your space and others personal space. Use equipment as directed. Follow all emergency procedures (fire drill/lockdown). Limit physical contact during activities.
*Students are expected to arrive to class on time, be prepared EVERY class with athletic clothing, and follow classroom procedures in a timely and appropriate manner.
This year you will have the opportunity to participate in many activities including team sports, individual sports, physical fitness, team building activities, and more. All lessons are aligned to the NYS Physical Education Standards
and the Common Core Learning Standards
for reading, writing, speaking and listening. Have a positive attitude, open mind, and be willing to try new or difficult activities!
STRIVE FOR FIVE (Student is assessed in 5 categories each class period, earning 0-5 points)
CLASS MAKE UPS:
||*Student is attentive during instruction and treats other in the class the way they want to be treated.
||*Student comes prepared for class with sneakers and comfortable clothing to move in.
||*Student follows all safety rules and regulations for PE class and the activities the students are engaged in.
||*Student is putting forth effort and actively engaged in the activities of class.
||*Student understands the concepts being taught in class through verbal, written or visual assessments.
All missed classes must be made up. There are several options:
1. Get a pre-signed pass from your PE teacher to come down during study hall.
2. Complete 30 minutes of physical activity at home. School sports practice does not count for this.
3. Review a fitness or sports related article from the internet, magazine, newspaper etc. Must be typed.
