Volney 4th Graders Collect Donations for Pets

Students in Erin Brewster’s fourth-grade class at Volney Elementary School will help dozens of pets throughout the community receive food and treats.

In lieu of a classroom holiday gift exchange, students collected dog and cat food, treats and toys for PAWS Across Oswego County. Located in Oswego the animal rescue operates a pet pantry for Oswego County dog and cat owners.

Volunteers Marjorie Wentworth and Connie Evans recently visited the elementary school to speak with the fourth-graders about the rescue and its “Reading for Rescue” program. With dogs Charlotte and Sawyer in tow, Evans read “Charlotte’s Big Dream” and Wentworth read “Sawyer’s Promise,” just a few of the books which are available for purchase at the rescue to help fund operations. Brewster said her students also read the books prior to the classroom visit.
