Fairgrieve Students to Help Needy Families

Fairgrieve Elementary School students received a lesson in giving as they learned that they can help feed needy neighbors with as little as a few pennies.
Tim Archer, Catholic Charities of Oswego County food pantry program supervisor, talked to Fairgrieve Elementary about the power of giving during the school’s Morning Express program Oct. 13. Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and any paper bills are all appreciated donations, he said.
For every $10 collected, 35 meals will be provided to local families. On average, the food pantry provides 9,000 to 10,000 meals per month.
“There truly is a need in Oswego County,” Archer said.
Principal Jean Ciesla said all monetary donations from students will be collected during the school’s Morning Express program on Friday, Oct. 16 to purchase vegetables for food boxes. A mock farm will be set up outside of the school Oct. 29, so students can also learn more about vegetables and how their donations will help families.
Archer said those food boxes will be distributed to families within the Fulton City School District.
