Rockets Launched at Fairgrieve Elementary

Fairgrieve Elementary sixth-graders blasted rockets into the air after having learned about Newton’s three laws of motion.
Teachers Rick Bush, John Mercer and Kerrie Standard-Phillips assisted students by connecting cables to the homemade rockets just before lift-off. Each student got to push a button which released the cable and set the rockets soaring into the air.
Prior to the launch, all sixth-graders spent time studying Newton’s three laws of motion and how it is applied to rocket science. Students also were able to identify rocker parts: engine mounts, fins, igniter, body tube, and launch lug.
The science lesson also was combined with English Language Arts, as the sixth-graders had to collect data and information to be used in a rocket launch news article.
