FJHS honors 8th graders at year-end ceremony

Fulton City School District eighth-graders successfully completed two years at the Fulton Junior High School and were honored during their grade-level ceremony for moving up to G. Ray Bodley High School.

While each student will receive a certificate of completion mailed to their home, dozens of students also received special recognition because they displayed improvement, academic success, excellence and effort throughout the 2018-2019 school year in either core academic and special areas. Principal Chris Leece and Assistant Principal Elizabeth Stoddard said they were thrilled to read the names of 56 students who received a presidential academic achievement award because they were named to the high honor roll for six quarters and had high achievement in reading or math on state exams or nationally-normed tests.

Stoddard said she was happy to announce that over 20 eighth-grade female students earned a Girls Excelling in Mathematics and Science, or GEMS, award because they maintained a 90 percent average, or above, in mathematics and science during the first three quarters of the 2018-2019 school year. Other celebratory awards included perfect attendance, orchestra, band, chorus, technology, Spanish, French, physical education and several department-level honors.

The eighth-graders cheered in excitement as Isabella Bogardus, Ryan Carroll, Taylor Jodway and Rose LaDue were named school spirit champions, Kendall Williamson for having earned the leadership award and both Emily Seale and Frank Sullivan earned nods for contributions to the FJSH yearbook.

Following the awards announcements, students, teachers and special guests were treated to a slideshow, reflective of the fun and learning had in the 2018-2019 school year. Leece thanked the students for their hard work and perseverance and wished them luck at GRB.
