Fulton students advance to county book battle

The Fulton City School District will send teams from Lanigan and Volney to the elementary portion of the Oswego County Battle of the Books event on March 12 at Sandy Creek High School.
FCSD’s district-wide battle attracted 15 total teams from the Level 1 (grades three and four) and Level 2 (grades five and six) to the Fourth Street School, Fulton. After each team at both levels answered 16 questions, it was Level 1 team from Lanigan Elementary, the Red Raider Readers Return, and Level 2 team from Volney Elementary, Mystery Readers, who came out victorious. Both teams achieved 120 points out of a possible 128.
Superintendent Brain Pulvino said the energy, enthusiasm and excitement from all team members was infectious and he was proud of all participants for their efforts to study all 10 books required for teams to compete. Students had 30 seconds to answer each question and write down the correct title and author to achieve up to eight points per response.
High-fives, fist bumps and sighs of relief filled the competition with each correct answer. Each competitor received a certificate of recognition for their efforts, and the two winning teams received FCSD Battle of the Books T-shirts to wear to the county battle.
