GRB STEAM showcase lets students shine

G. Ray Bodley High School students revealed their creative, academic interests during the annual STEAM showcase.

Dozens of students in grades nine through 12 offered glimpses of their science, technology, engineering, arts and math achievements and abilities with various presentations, trial launches, solos, group activities and displays.

The technology wing alone welcomed students, their family members and Fulton City School District administrators to VEX robotics competitive games a catapult challenge and photography display. Teacher Eric Wasacz said students were given a choice as to which area they would like to present in, and while the rocket launches were meant to entice younger students to enroll in technology classes, upperclassmen had just as much fun trying to land their rocket on the target.

Just a short distance away, people filled the hallways surrounding the art rooms as students showcased their sculpting, painting, wood-burning and ceramics talents. Junior Emily Munger joined teacher Meredith Williams in crafting ceramic creations as they explained to attendees the series of art classes students may take, including three specific ceramics ones. Williams said many students will thrive in class and end up selling their art work to family, friends and teachers.

Sweet sounds of music were heard at multiple locations, which provided the chance as students to perform individually, as well as in solo spots. Additional highlights included presentations on the following topics: a Cedar Strip boat, futuristic show design, work-study, science posters about cool learning experiences and several other entertaining pieces.
