Granby UPK ornament day a success

Granby Elementary School Universal-Pre-Kindergarten students combined classroom learning with the holiday spirit and created beautiful handmade ornaments for family members.
The half-day program’s annual UPK Ornament Day brought families together to see how lessons learned at school can be applied to real-life activities for some of Fulton City School District’s youngest students. Teacher Michele Long said the activities of beaded candy canes, photograph ornament, reindeer food, snowflake ornament and the Christmas countdown chain all correlated with the following skills: math, pattern development, name identification, following directions, sharing and taking turns, along with additional social and fine-motor skills.
Kelsey and Kaylin Nelson smiled, as they were ecstatic to work on the projects alongside their mother, Loreal Nelson. Their classmates also enjoyed time with their parents, grandparents and other supportive adults.
An early holiday gift of a winter-themed book was provided to each student.
