FCSD grad educates Fairgrieve about weather

The forecast for student success within the Fulton City School District is clear with a chance of landing a great career.

That is exactly what G. Ray Bodley High School graduate Carson Metcalf proved when he took his passion for weather and transformed that into his life-long dream of becoming a meteorologist. He told Fairgrieve Elementary School students briefly about his journey during a recent Morning Express program before he further explained the commitment, education and drive it took to succeed.

“Predicting the future is one of the things I do; it’s so cool,” Metcalf said.

He stressed how important his attentiveness to math and science was in order for him to achieve his goals and how Fulton City School District’s character education traits, such as perseverance, respect and responsibility, helped land him his job at Spectrum News in Syracuse. Metcalf said he has come a long way since he provided weather reports for classmates and staff members of Lanigan Elementary and GRB.

He explained the use of green screens to show graphics on television, the importance social media and websites have with forecasts and the students’ favorite precipitation: snow!

Students then took turns asking Metcalf questions about tornadoes and other weather patterns, storm chasing and his job duties.
