G. Ray Bodley High School Principal Donna Parkhurst informed members of the Class of 2021 just one goal she has for them: for all 288 students to graduate in the next four years.
Work toward that goal began during the recent freshman parent night, where both parents and ninth-graders learned school expectations, practiced locker combinations to find treats hidden in there, walked through bell schedules and received information on extracurricular activities for students to become immersed in school culture. Students were also introduced to freshman advisors, counselors, assistant principals and teachers.
The “Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Success” theme carried into the annual GRB Freshman First day, which provided an opportunity for GRB’s ninth-graders to have the entire school themselves to become more acclimated with the high school. Freshman First also represented the final step in transition from junior high school to high school.
Parkhurst said as the freshmen become more comfortable at GRB, she hopes they learn that “there’s no place like GRB,” and that the high school becomes a second home to those students.
