Carnival concludes FCSD summer school program

Fulton City School District special education students have continued to strive for success throughout the summer months as they worked toward achieving personal goals and improving core academic skills.

Dozens of elementary, junior high and high school students recently came together to celebration just that during the annual summer carnival, held at Granby Elementary. They attended the six-week program where the Scholastic “Summer LitCamp” program was piloted. ELA coach Renee Hendrickson praised the camp’s model of social-emotional development with a focus on seven strengths of belonging, friendship, kindness, curiosity, confidence, courage and hope; literacy skills of fluency, comprehension and analysis; and engagement skills of stamina, motivation and independence.

During the carnival celebration, students experienced face painting, sending some teachers into a dunking booth and several fun activities:  ring toss, animal darts, temporary tattoos, pick-a-duck, ladder ball, feed the elephant and tic tac toe, among several others. Smiles and cheers were abound as students moved to each station where they won small prizes for their efforts. After all of the fun, students, teachers and administrators gathered for a picnic-style lunch before the celebration ended.
