Fairgrieve’s top Accelerated Readers earn honors

Several Fairgrieve Elementary School students were recently honored for reading with PIZZAzz throughout the 2016-2017 school year.

The school’s top point earners with the Accelerated Reader program earned a minimum of 100 points and scored a minimum of 80 points on each Accelerated Reader test in order to participate in the annual Pizza with the Principal celebration. For their efforts, students were treated to a personal pan pizza and a drink at Pizza Hut, followed by a tour of the kitchen where they learned how the pizzas were made. Accompanied by Principal Jean Sampsell, Library Media Specialist Barb Senecal and library staff members, the students enjoyed the tasty meal and discussed ideas for next year’s Accelerated Reader theme.

This year’s pizza-themed celebration continued in the school library where students were presented with goodie bags full of fun pizza-related prizes. Each honoree selected a brand new book to keep and the top three point earners also received a $10 gift card to River’s End Bookstore in Oswego. The group then enjoyed ice cream sundaes together before they headed back to class.

Jayden LaGrow, the only second-grader represented in the 100-point club, flew past his original year-long goal of 20 points to earn 104.1. He said he has always enjoyed reading because he learns a lot of information and has used the words and pictures to create a movie in his head.

The AR program was available to students in grades one through six. Additional Fairgrieve AR students with the most points are: Brenda Longok, 241.5; A.J. Burns, 219.2; Dougie VanSanford, 166.7; Grace Hutton, 159.8; Steven Master, 140.1; Caitlyn Searor, 124.4; Will Patterson, 110.5; Riley Niver, 101.2; Gabbriella Runge, 100.3 and Jayce Wornick, 100.
