Fairgrieve’s Teddy Bear Picnic celebrates reading

Fairgrieve Elementary School first-graders celebrated the end of the 2016-2017 school year with teddy bear hugs and library love.
Library Media Specialist Barb Senecal recently hosted the school’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic for first-grade students, as a celebration of their reading accomplishments. To escape the heat, the picnic was moved to inside the library where tables decorated with the red and white checkered picnic-style table cloths filled with young students who enjoyed a provided lunch of either a ham or turkey sandwich, potato chips and a drink. The students’ cuddly stuffed animals accompanied them on their lunch and received lots of hugs.
The first-graders were treated to a Teddy Bear Picnic song, popsicles and congratulatory wishes on their reading achievements. Throughout the school year, the children listened to stories in the library, talked about how to take care of books, learned to find good books, practiced keyboarding, found Ebooks, enhanced computer skills, researched authors and the memorized the main components of a book.
