Lanigan 1st graders visit museum

Tis the season for Lanigan Elementary School first-graders to learn about the history of their community.

Accompanied by their teachers and a handful of guests during recent visits to the Pratt House, students received guided tours of the two-story museum. There, they took a step back in time as they learned about Christmas of yesteryear and home life in the 1800s/early 1900s.

The students also participated in the museum’s annual Parade of Trees event, where they voted for their favorite decorated Christmas tree to help local schools and nonprofit organizations win small cash prizes. Several Fulton City School District programs and classrooms submitted entries, including trees with the following themes: Haudenosaunee Peace Tree by Lanigan Elementary fourth-graders, Christmas Under the Sea by Fairgrieve Elementary kindergarten and first-graders, The Legend of the Poinsettia by Lanigan kindergarten students and Gingerbread by First Step Universal Pre-Kindergarten at Volney Elementary.

Lanigan First-Grade Teacher Marie Mathes said the museum visit tied into many academic units on the past and present.
