GRB junior named to student advisory committee

Jake Geitner, G. Ray Bodley High School Junior, is representing Section III as a chosen member of the newly-formed Student-Athlete Advisory Committee of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
He was selected among 24 other junior or senior high school athletes from throughout the state who represent each of the 11 sections. Students were chosen based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and involvement in sports. According to its website, the advisory committee was developed as a way to provide students with a voice within the NYSPHSAA.
GRB Principal Donna Parkhurst said Geitner was “an obvious choice to nominate for this position, as he is a school leader.”
Geitner is captain of the GRB Varsity baseball and soccer teams.
Just over a month into the school year and Geitner has already brought his athletic leadership expertise to the table with participation in conference calls where he has offered advice on leadership development. He said he is committed to representing Section III and sharing with the public what the NYSPHSAA does and to how better get its message out to athletes. Additional phone conferences will occur throughout the school year and Geitner will attend the New England Leadership conference in Boston, Mass.
“I think it’s all just going to be a good experience,” Geitner said.
Christopher Ells, Fulton City School District Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, said he is proud of the student athlete for all of his achievements.
