New mission at Volney

Volney Elementary School students and staff members are on a new mission to success.
Principal Todd Terpening said the faculty recently came up with a new mission statement that puts the power of education directly into the hands of students: “Developing leaders by providing all students with what they need to succeed.”
He said the goal is to ensure all students learn, believe and achieve that mission. It serves as a living document, which students embody daily.
The process is being supported by a fun, child-friendly LEAD chant: Learn, Excel, Achieve, Do your best! Students have recited the mission and chant during each Morning Meeting at the school and the LEAD reminder is on a “brag tag” each student received at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
Students are owning their education through use of data binders, where they record behavior and attendance goals. Terpening said that will help students improve social and emotional development. Those, and several additional opportunities, will help Volney students embrace the school’s new vision statement: “Our students will graduate from high school and have the knowledge and skills to learn, lead and thrive in an ever changing world.”
The renewed efforts are a part of Volney’s Local Assistance Plan, which will help the elementary school continue to soar as a fantastic school.
